Turn Your Dreams Into A Reality Using A Goal Card
Want to reach a specific goal this year?
This card can help…
The end of 2013 is fast approaching and the season of creating New Year’s resolutions is right around the corner. Already, I have exercise and dietary changes I want to make, and I have some big business and community goals I want to meet.
“80% of wealthy are focused on accomplishing some single goal. Only 12% of the poor do this.”
This year, I am taking myself through an intense personal goal-setting workshop. At the end, I will choose one goal that when met, will positively shift my life and the lives of others, and I will then create a goal card for this specific goal.
How I Learned of Goal Cards
My awareness of the goal card came many years ago when first reading Think and Grow Rich, but most recently it made its way back into my life when I joined an online business school. Fabienne Fredrickson gave each student a blank card with instructions to write the personal accomplishments they make in their first year of working with her. “Acting as if,” I celebrated my increased income, my valuable services, the students I guided, the positive impact my focus had on all my relationships, and the positive impact I made in my community.
How Goal Cards Have Worked For Me
For the last eight months, every morning and every evening, I read the card out-loud, held my visions sacredly in my mind, and felt the outcomes of my accomplishments. This one action created multiple shifts in my life. My confidence increased. Work was a joy. Energy was abundant. Ideas for improvement came easily, and fear was consistently trumped by courage. I found comfort, inspiration, and clarity in my vision. The goal card has been a powerful tool for building my business, as well as helping me effectively serve others.
Think and Grow Rich Excerpt
Review the following excerpt from Think and Grow Rich. Napoleon Hill gives the following steps to attracting wealth…
Every human being who reaches the age of understanding
of the purpose of money, wishes for it. Wishing will not bring
riches. But desiring riches with a state of mind that becomes
an obsession, then planning definite ways and means to acquire
riches, and backing those plans with persistence which does not
recognize failure, will bring riches.
The method by which DESIRE for riches can be transmuted
into its financial equivalent consists of six definite, practical steps, viz:
First. Fix your mind on the exact amount of the money you desire.
It is not sufficient merely to say, ”I want plenty of money.” Be
definite as to the amount (There is a psychological reason for
definiteness, which will be described in a subsequent chapter).
Second. Determine what you intend to give in return for the money
you desire (There is no such reality as “something for nothing”).
Third. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the
money you desire.
Fourth. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire and
begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into
action.
Fifth. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money
you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state
what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe
clearly the plan though which you intend to accumulate it.
Sixth. Read your written assignment aloud, twice daily, once just
before retiring at night, and once after rising in the morning. AS
YOU READ – SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF
ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY (Hill 48,49).
Goal Card Enhancements by Bill Marshall
To enhance my goal card experience, I am applying the following Bill Marshall suggestions….
– Make a minimum of four copies of the same goal card and place one on my nightstand, one on the bathroom mirror, one in my office, and carry one with me.
– Laminate the cards.
– Read the card several times a day.
– If inspired, revise wording of the card as the details of the goal become more clear.
Not Just For Money….Apply Goal Cards to Your Singing
Goal cards may help any area of your life. I adopted this idea from Fabienne Fredrickson…in my new student packet, I give each one of my students a blank card (pictured below) to fill out. Goals regarding auditioning, performing, voice quality, memory, and improving confidence can all be included in a Rejoice In Your Voice™ goal card.
Step-by-Step to Making Your Goal Card
1. Take four 3×5 cards, set them aside
2. Read over the above Think and Grow Rich excerpt
3. On a piece of scratch paper, work out the following details;
a. Choose are area of your life that you would like to improve and specifically identify your goal
b. Craft the details of the service, product, time, or action you will deliver in exchange for meeting your goal
c. Establish a date that you want to meet your goal
d. Write the steps you will consistently take to meet the goal
4. When you are pleased with the wording, handwrite your goal on a 3×5 card and then rewrite it on each card; you now have four cards to place around your home, your office, and one to carry with you
5. Laminate or contact paper the card
6. Place one card on your nightstand, one in your bathroom, one in your office space, and carry one with you at all times
7. Read the card as soon as you wake-up, several times during the day, and again before you go to sleep
8. Commit to this action for a minimum of 90 days
9. Be open to revising the content, as you are inspired
Make this the best year yet!
From finances, marriage, relationships, and parenting to self-care and spirituality, it is my belief that the more focused we are in shaping our days, weeks, months, and years, the more we will create the successes we desire. Thus, our life will be created of a gazillion moments of joy, laughter, happiness, contribution, love, connection, and growth. As you head into the New Year, create a goal card and watch your vision move from your mind to your reality.
Best wishes and happy 2014!

Great idea and wonderful way to start the year… I’m going to make up a couple of these right away and do just what you said – put them everywhere around my house and office so that I will be constantly reminded of what it is that I am intending to change. Thanks so much for the great incentive!
